Springs here

 Working in the garden

Were so excited for spring.  Over the last week we've been getting the garden ready to plant.  Today Fluttershy helped me plant peas, carrots, spinach, lettuce, and onions.  All the things that can withstand the colder temperatures.  We both enjoyed out day out in the sunshine.  It will be fun for her to watch the sprouts come up and grow into vegetables she can pick.  She helped me and was having fun, until she discovered we have a little neighbor girl who lives next door.  She spent the rest of the afternoon playing through the fence.

She made a friend today.  It will be a fun summer playing out in the yard.

Make your own silly putty

Make your own silly putty
Wow the many uses of Borax.  It's not just for laundry.  We had so much fun making our silly putty today.  I can't believe how easy it was and that we haven't made it before.  This experiment came from a really neat site.  http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/experiments/crazyputty.html  We've found lots of fun stuff on their site.

What you need:
Borax
2 bowls
Elmer's glue
Food coloring
water
spoon

 Step 1:
take a small bowl and dilute 1 tablespoon of Borax in 1 cup hot water
set aside

 Step 2:
In the second bowl pour Elmer's glue.  Pour enough to cover the bottom of the bowl.
Stir in a 1-2 tsp of water.  Enough to make it slightly runny, but not too runny.
Add 2 drops of food coloring. Mix well.

Step 3:
Add 1-2 Tbsp Borax water.  Add a little at a time till it changes and forms a ball.  I found that mine wasn't thick enough after we stirred it so I added a little more and it turned it to the silly putty thickness.

Play and have fun.

It bounces, stretches, & squishes.

Amazing texture you just want to squeeze it.

Oil Art

Create stain class effects using vegetable oil

We all enjoyed our art project today.  First we drew with crayons on white paper.

Next we painted on vegetable oil, covering the paper with a light coat.
These turned out fun and when they dry we'll hang them up in the window for the light to shine through.

In the dark again

How to make a light table when you don't have power.
Once again we were without power.  It's starting to become a regular occurrence around here. I'm actually thinking about making a power's out activity box for these occasions.

For our lights out fun we created our first light table using a flashlight.  It worked out brilliantly.  I used two little chairs to support my clear bin and put our large flashlight under it.

It was as bright and fun as our other light table.  And this one you can use when the power goes out.  How's that for being resourceful?

Getting warm by the fire with her sister.

And of course playing in the tunnel with flashlights is even funner when the lights are out.
