Sensory rocks
Sensory rocks
This collection of rocks I got from my grandpa when I was little. I think I loved playing with it as much as my girls do. Rarity loved digging through and looking at each one. Some are smooth, some are rough, and there are every color of the rainbow. Just some fun pictures of her enjoying their great grandpa's rocks.

Sensory time
Sensory mixing
We've done so many sensory experiences but I still find new ones to try. Here I have supplied tinsel and two different colors of epson salt. I encouraged them to mix the three together making a fun mixture.
Epson salt is a fun medium to practice writing letters. First I'll write a letter with my finger. Then I'll encourage both girls to make their own. Fluttershy isn't really into writing yet so I'm encouraging her to at least learn how you form letters. When it comes to learning to write she'll be one step closer.

Mashed Sensory Activity
Sensory bin:
Mashed peas
This was a interesting sensory experience. Most of my activities are usually welcomed by Rarity. This time Fluttershy took to it and I couldn't get Rarity to play. In fact she didn't want to even touch it. I showed her how to get her hand in there and squish it. But she still wouldn't touch it.
Now Fluttershy on the other hand was a different story. She really enjoyed the mashed peas oozing through her fingers. I had to clean up my cupboards afterward because she kept taking handfuls of the mush and liked to make it plop in the tub.

Sensory Balloons
Sensory Balloons
I was very impressed how well this activity went. Both girls enjoyed it, but I think Fluttershy was really understanding what the sense of touch was.
I provided 11 balloons that I filled with the objects in the above picture. I as well put examples of the item int he muffin cups so that she could have a visual of what the items might be. I think as she gets older i wouldn't need the muffin cups, but as she is only 4 I think they were needed.
I had each girl pick out a balloon and each. I really focused on Fluttershy and really included Rarity for the sensory part. While Rarity was playing with the balloons I had Fluttershy squish and feel her balloon to see of she could figure out what was in her's. We talked about if it was soft/hard. After she made her guess, I let her cut open the balloon to see if she was right. Both girls really had fun with the messy part of course.
When I saw this activity at http://pre-schoolplay.blogspot.com/ I knew this would be a hit for my kids. Thanks Pre-schoolplay for the inspiration.
