Lesson Pathways

 Alphabet Scavenger Hunt

We've discovered a new resource that I'm very excited aboutLesson Pathways has some wonderful ideas for weekly lessons I plan on using when the girls are looking for more preschool things to do.  We will start with the alphabet lessons and see how fast be go through them.

Alphabet Scavenger Hunt
You can hide slips of paper or foam letters around your house.  Each slip of paper should have a different letter on it.   Try to hide the letters behind or near objects that start with that letter.  Hide the letter L behind a lamp, the letter D behind a door, etc.

My girls ran through the house so fast I couldn't keep up with them.  We start off by having them say the name and the sounds of each letter they found, but I couldn't slow them down towards the end.

 Use Sidewalk Chalk
to create a path of letters along a sidewalk or driveway or put letters into a HopScotch game and name the letters before you hop!

This would have been a wonderful outside activity if the weather has cooperated, but since it was like 20 degrees outside we opted for a inside version.  We used our foam letter we found in the scavenger hung to make our own version of hopscotch.

Fluttershy helped me lay out the letters on order, then I had them hop, jump, crawl, walk, etc through the alphabet saying the name of the letters as they landed on them.

Airplane Banner
We printed and cut this out.  With help from mommy, Fluttershy wrote all the alphabet letters.  It's now hanging on the wall.

  Make Clay letters

Ask your child to pick 26 pages of construction paper. Take a marker and write one letter of the alphabet at the top of each page.

Today we made the alphabet book pages and every week we will complete one letter.

These are awesome ideas! My daughter saw me looking at them and announced she wants to make play dough letters too! Thank you so much for sharing at Teach Me Tuesday -- I hope we see you again next week!

  2. I LOVE the idea of the alphabet scavenger hunt. If that doesn't get kids interested, nothing will :)

  4. We'll have to try the color scavenger hunt. That sound like a great way to introduce colors and recognize them.
