Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel Mary Anne are a remarkable team. Mike is so faithful to his steam shovel that even the new and improved gasoline, electric, and diesel shovels do not interest him. Soon, Mike and Mary Anne find themselves without work. In an attempt to prove that Mary Anne is still able to work with the best of them, Mike makes a proposal to the town of Popperville. He and Mary Anne will dig the cellar for the new town hall in one day or it’s free of charge. When a glitch prevents the task from being accomplished, it looks as though Mike and Mary Anne will not get paid. Then, a clever suggestion by a little boy creates a home for Mike and Mary Anne in Popperville forever. ~ Rainbow Resources

Tuesday:  Art- Motion & Backhoe painting.

In the final climatic dig, Mary Anne was working as fast as she could to finish the dig.  The artist illustrated this by swirling circular motions of the smoke, steam and dirt.  Here is Fluttershy's version of a a drawing with motion.

Wednesday:  Science- Steam Power, Condensation.

We didn't have a tea kettle so we improvised with our rice cooker.  It had a nice little hole for a vent and created a really nice steam power for our pin wheel.  First we made our own pin wheels and then let the steam power it.  Fluttershy was really delighted not to have to blow hers to make it work.  We also used a mirror to show when you hold the mirror over the steam the water will build back up on it. 

Condensation experiment: Pour out a glass of icy cold water from the fridge or a cup of ice. Water in the air that’s been heated up and turned into vapor suddenly hits the cold surface of the glass, cools down and turns back from vapor into water droplets. This only took a minute before we started seeing water droplets.

Thursday: Math- Geometry

The cellar was completed: "four corners...Neat and square."  We covered that a square has 4 equal sides.  I provided several squares and we measured it to make sure they were neat and square.  Then I let them create city with their squares. 

This is Rarity's city she made all on her own.

There were several neat printables on Home school share  we did.

Science Play activity- Treasure bracelets

For our nature walk today we observed the world around us and found some treasures to stick on our bracelets.  We took some tape and had the stick part on the outside and when the girls found something they thought was neat they stuck it to their bracelets.  We collected flowers, seeds, leaves, petals, and bark.  We ended our walk at the park.
