Jumping a Distance

Slow and Steady Get Me ready

Lesson Age 4 – Week 43

To introduce the concept of narrow, wider, widest we tied two jump ropes to chairs and created a "river" between them.  We didn't want to get wet in the river so we tried to jump over both ropes to the other site.  As Fluttershy got better I would widen the ropes to make it more difficult and more of a challenge.  And more fun as she tried to jump over it different ways.  On occasion she did land in the river. But it was all fun.

This activity develops:

  • Gross motor skills

  • skills in jumping distance

  • skills in distinguishing narrow, wider, widest

  • listening skills

I found these neat shape block pictures at prekinders.com.  We already had the shape blocks for our Saxon Math so this was a fun find to use with them.  Both my girls really enjoyed creating pictures.
