Walking in a cardboard wonderland

So much for a winter wonderland.  My kids have been enjoying our cardboard crazy land.  Thank goodness it's been keeping them busy and out of my hair allowing me to pack.  We still have been managing to do our lessons.  It's a little behind, but here is our Week 15: Day 3

Day 3:

Calendar Activity

Colors- We went through our crayon box and named our colors.

“Left to Right is the way we Read and Write!”  (Author unknown)
Trace and cut out the child's left hand on green paper, right hand on red paper.  Place the green hand to the left of the page where you are going to write and the red hand to the right. Teach your child to always start at the left (green hand – go), and stop at the right (red hand – stop).
Read numbers on an alarm clock.  Place green hand and red hand on sides of an electric clock.
- Have your child help hold the green hand on left side or red hand on the right side of a book as you read.  Point to the words as you read.
- Tie a red ribbon around the right hand to help the child remember (red=right).
Focus on left and right throughout the week – reading left to right, how a computer types left to right across the page, etc.

We watched the Rainbow Fish story.

Letter writing practice-  Letter d,p
Number writing practice- number 2,5
Shapes-  squares worksheet

Gross Motor Skills Activity
Have your child stand opposite you with about seven feet separating you.  Before throwing a large soft ball or beach ball toward your child, say "right", "left", or "both".  Depending on what you say, have the child bat the ball away with that hand(s).  This requires another level of thinking.  At first, have your child show you which hand(s) they will use.  As he/she improves, give less time before the ball is thrown.

This wasn't on our lesson plan, but I wanted to do it anyway.  This is our official 1st sensory bin.  Both kiddos just loved it.  Digging, pouring, and shaking the bottles that they would fill.

It was so much fun I'm going to be doing lots more of these.
