Kindergarten Week 1
What a fun 1st week we’ve had. Everything went fairly smooth. It will take a bit of time to get back into the groove of school, but I think it went well. We are still waiting for our math program so this week we just worked on addition with the abacus. Fluttershy really enjoys the abacus so this was fine with her.
This is what we did this week:
Math: Addition with an abacus. Fluttershy worked on 0’s, 1’, and 2’s.
Writing: Fluttershy worked on Zaner-Bloser kindergarten handwriting. She worked on horizontal lines and vertical lines. We are still trying to figure out which hand she wants to write with. She uses the left one mostly, but occasionally really wants to use the right.
Safety kids: This week we talked about strangers. Fluttershy and Rarity both really loved the cd. And after playing one particular song at their request over and over again for the 7th time I had to change cd’s for my own sanity. Glad they like it. They both picked up on the lyrics and asked a lot of questions.
Science: We watched Magic School Bus’s Lost in Space & learned about shadows for our Elemental Science lessons. We went for a shadow nature walk, measured our shadow outside at different times of the day, learned what makes a shadow, and made silhouette pictures using the girls shadows.
Fun box’s: Uno, Play do, Puzzle, and ABC Bingo.
Reading: She learned about the vowel pair OE as in toe, sight word shoe, the stand alone O as in Old, played a guessing game for review. I See Sam Set 3 Book 18 got passed off.
Audio books: Chicken Licken & beauty and the beast.
Art: Franz Kline inspired line art.
Cooking: Fluttershy made us fabulous baked oatmeal for dinner one night & cute bagel faces another night.
