Celery Experiment

Celery Color Experiment

Learning how plants absorb water out of the soil with their root system, then send it up into the rest of the plant.

For our fun science lesson today I had Fluttershy fill a cup with water and add about 5-10 drops of food coloring to it.  After stirring the coloring around we added a fresh cut celery stock to our water.  After about 30 minutes the first coloring started to show.  To get the best effect we left our celery to sit over night.  We were impressed how fast you start to see the color.  I had no idea that they absorbed water that fast through their system.  We all learned something with this activity.
