K Week 2

Math: We finally got to start our new math program Math Mammoth.  I’m very optimistic this will be a great program.  I still incorporated manipulatives, but doesn’t need a lot of prep time.  Fluttershy had a fun week with math.  She loved the colorful workbooks.  She worked on basic 1-10 addition and number line this week.

Writing:  She worked on writing 1’s and 2’s this week.

Explode the code:  her activities this week covered a as in apple.

Science:  The topic was rain this week.  What good timing our lesson had.  We haven’t had much of any rain for the last month and this week we not only got rain, but it poured on Labor Day.  We took the opportunity to put our raincoats on and play in it.  We also did a science experiment where we discovered what the shape of rain in when it lands.

Another activity we did this week was rain painting. Last weekend we painted drawings with tempera paint and let it dry.  When our unexpected rain storm appeared we took our pictures out and let the rain fall on them.  The paint ran a little, but not as much as I’d hoped, so I let the girls help the paint run with finger paint.  We concluded our science this week with our nature walk.  Fluttershy asked that we look for yellow things.

To go along with our rain week we watched Magic school bus’s We all over.

Audio story: We enjoyed Cinderella along with cookies and milk.  We were surprised to find out in this story that Cinderella went to two ball, as opposed to the one that Disney portrayed.

OPGTR: Covered sounds oe, ow, and ew.DSC_0172

Fun box 1: Puzzle

Fun box 2: vowel Pair game

Fun box 3: Old maid

Fun box 4: Legos

Art: Foot Path.  The girls had fun making foot prints on butcher paper.

Cooking:  Fluttershy made up homemade quesadilla with tortillas you have to cook first.  She was so eager to do everthing herself.  She did a wonderful job and we had a great dinner.DSC_0185
