Sensory bins #1

Thursday: Preschool Palace activities

Movement: Streamer dance. Take hair scrunchies or large covered ponytail bands and loop ribbon or streamers over the band. Children then put band over wrists and use as extensions to move to the music. Play music and dance!

Sensory Table: Bean and corn sensory tub. Fill sensory table with dried beans and dried kernels of Indian corn. Add measuring tools.

Craft: Bean and corn craft. Allow children to use some dried beans and dried kernels from In-dian corn and glue to cardstock for mosaic, design, free-style design.

Snack Option: Tortilla/corn chips with bean dip with corn mixed in. Delicious!

Craft/Writing: Family Collage. Have the children go through magazines and find pictures of all the things their mothers do. Cut them out and glue them onto construction paper. The same can be done for dad. Another variation is to have the children cut out pictures to represent the people in their family and the things they like to do as a family.
These are so much for for the kids to dance with and so easy to make.  I've used a large hair band and tied ribbons on it.  My kids love to wear them like bracelets and dance around.

Sensory bins are new to us.  This is our first attempt.  Fluttershy had fun digging around and pouring the beans into the cups.

Surprise counting

Surprise Rarity can count to 10.  She surprised us with this tidbit of knowledge we didn't know she could do.  She's been very observant lately watching her sister do everything.  So far she's picked up everything on her own.  It's been great.  I was only able to catch her counting to 6 this time, but I assure you she goes all the way to 10 on her own.  Pretty cool for a 23 month old.  Little smarty pants.

Sock basketball

Week 13 : Day 2

Nothing is funner for the kids than finger painting.  Here they are flying free.

Futtershy's masterpiece.
This is Fluttershy's first attempt at a family picture.  It's a bit hard to tell but she's got the body and arms and eye drawn.  Some of us has legs.  Unfortunately non of us have heads.  Oops.  She did get Daisy 4 legs though.  As I watched her do this she was telling me who was who and saying what she was drawing.
Fine Motor Skill:
Write "My Family" on the bottom of a blank piece of paper.  Have your child draw his/her family.  Your child will be doing this activity periodically throughout the curriculum.  Write the date on the back of the picture and save the picture to compare each time.  The pictures should become more detailed with time.

Gross motor skills-
Play basketball with a rolled-up sock and a laundry basket.
Rarity decided it was funner to sit in the basket and get hit by the flying socks.

We love playing on starfall.  We played the silly turkey game and counted bears

Happy mommy moment

I have been trying really hard to help these two learn how to share.  It's a hard age for sharing.  A 2 year old doesn't understand and a 4 year old knows but usually is too selfish to care.  They've been fighting over this toy for the past week.  Just before nap time I gave them 10 minutes more to play and this is what i found a few minutes later.  Both smiling and giggling.  With team work they were able to get it to spin.  Win win solution.  I hope I can get this to continue.  Yeah for a cooperation moment.

Winter wonderland

It Snowed!!!  The first snow is fun.  The storms after that are just annoying.  These pictures were take on Saturday.

Just purfect for snowballs and snowmen.
Rarity wasn't so sure about it.  She was too little last year to do much in it.  After about 10 minutes she was done.
Daisy was soaked by the time we went inside.

Join the dots

Play-   Play Go Fish with numbers and/or letters

This was Fluttershy's masterpiece.

Bathtime fun

To make bath time extra fun (the kids already love their bubble baths) we made colored ice cubes.  I let Fluttershy do all the color mixing then we froze them for tonight. They had lots of fun with this evenings bath. They didn't last too long but left just a hint of coloring to the water.

Thank Amanda for this great idea.
